Opening Discussion

  • When did your faith become your own?

Read and Discuss

2 Timothy 2:1-2

1 You, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

  • What are some ways you can be strong in the grace of Christ Jesus?
  • Who has helped teach you the faith?
    • Who told them about Jesus?
  • Who is someone you are helping or could help pass on your faith to?
    • What is difficult about this?

Ephesians 6:10-13

10 Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens. 13 For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.

  • What were some ways Paul found his strength in the Lord?
  • How can you rely on the Lord’s strength instead of your own?
  • What are some of the devil’s schemes?
    • How do you know the difference between the devil’s schemes and a bad day?
  • Why is it difficult to remember that our fight isn’t against flesh and blood?
  • Who is someone you feel like might be your enemy?
    • How can you show them love this week?
  • What are some ways the armor of God helps you resist evil?

Isaiah 1:16-17, 23

16  “Wash yourselves. Cleanse yourselves. Remove your evil deeds from my sight. Stop doing evil. 17 Learn to do what is good. Pursue justice. Correct the oppressor. Defend the rights of the fatherless. Plead the widow’s cause.

23  Your rulers are rebels, friends of thieves. They all love graft and chase after bribes. They do not defend the rights of the fatherless, and the widow’s case never comes before them.

  • Why does the Lord tell His people to cleanse themselves and stop doing evil before He tells them to do good?
    • How can you cleanse yourself this week?
  • Who are some people in your circles of influence that you can help this week?
  • The description of the rules and those in power is a bleak one. How should we respond when those in power are corrupt?

Discipleship Questions

  • What are some ways you can show love to those that you would consider an enemy?
  • What can you pray specifically this week for the politicians who are running our city, state, and country?
  • Who is someone you can tell the Gospel to this week?

Memorize it!

Isaiah 1:16-  “Wash yourselves. Cleanse yourselves. Remove your evil deeds from my sight. Stop doing evil.

Pray!

End your time in prayer thanking God for His goodness and grace even while we were still sinners. Spend some time in confession to the things you did this week that need cleansing. Pray for those in power that they would repent and turn to the Lord.

Finally pray for those who in the past few weeks who have started going to church and reading their Bible. Ask the Lord to help them to come to know Him and put people in their life to talk to them more about what it means to follow Jesus. Pray also that the Lord would use you to bring people to Him.
