Galatians 4:21-26
21 Tell me, you who want to live under the law, do you know what the law actually says? 22 The Scriptures say that Abraham had two sons, one from his slave wife and one from his freeborn wife. 23 The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise. But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of his promise.
24 These two women serve as an illustration of God’s two covenants. The first woman, Hagar, represents Mount Sinai where people received the law that enslaved them. 25 And now Jerusalem is just like Mount Sinai in Arabia, because she and her children live in slavery to the law. 26 But the other woman, Sarah, represents the heavenly Jerusalem. She is the free woman, and she is our mother.
- Paul starts off this section with a rhetorical question that Jesus often asked the Pharisees: “Do you know what the law actually says?” If someone asked you this question, how would you respond?
- The son of the slave was born because Abraham and Sarah tried to fulfill God’s promises by their own means. Where else does this happen in scripture when people attempt to hurry God up or ignore His leading completely?
- Today, what are some ways people attempt to fulfill God’s promises on their own?
- What happened as a result of Abraham’s choices?
- How can you choose to live in Christ’s freedom today?
Luke 10:25-29
25 One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?”
27 The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 “Right!” Jesus told him. “Do this and you will live!”
29 The man wanted to justify his actions, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
- Jesus is being questioned by an expert in the law and Jesus puts it back on him. “How do you read it?” Why doesn’t Jesus give him a straight answer?
- If someone asked you what they must do to be saved and get eternal life, what would you say?
- Why did the man want to justify his actions?
- How does this show he is still living under the law and not by freedom?
- What are some actions you try to justify to others?

- What is an area of your life where you are waiting for the Lord?
- What are some temptations to take matters into your own hands?
- What might happen as a result?
- Who can you tell about the eternal life that comes through Christ this week?

Prayer TACOS!
Thanksgiving- How has the Lord freed you? Thank Him for that now.
Adoration- Worship the Lord for His promises that He has kept, and the ones He is in the process of fulfilling.
Confess- What have you done this week and tried to justify it even though you knew it was wrong? Confess that and ask the Lord to help you walk in freedom this week.
Others- Who is a neighbor that you can show love to this week? Remember that your neighbor is more than just someone who lives next door. Ask the Lord to show you a neighbor in need and to give you the boldness to talk and help them.
Self- Are you living by the law or by freedom? Ask the Lord to help you know the difference between the two and that he would guide you this week in freedom.
