Opening Discussion

  • Who is someone you could thank this week? Why did they come to mind?

Read and Discuss

Acts 3:1-8

1 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple for the time of prayer at three in the afternoon. 2 A man who was lame from birth was being carried there. He was placed each day at the temple gate called Beautiful, so that he could beg from those entering the temple. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter the temple, he asked for money. 4 Peter, along with John, looked straight at him and said, “Look at us.” 5 So he turned to them, expecting to get something from them. 6 But Peter said, “I don’t have silver or gold, but what I do have, I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!” 7 Then, taking him by the right hand he raised him up, and at once his feet and ankles became strong. 8 So he jumped up and started to walk, and he entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God.

Shorter Version

  • Peter and John were on their way for a set time of daily prayer with other believers. Who are some people you could pray with daily?
    • What would it take to make that happen?
  • How did Peter know that Jesus wanted to heal this man?
  • When you see people begging on the streets, what is your response?
    • How could you start praying to see what God wants to do in their life?

  • Do you think miracles still happen today? Why or why not?
  • When was the last time you prayed for a miracle?
    • What happened?

Matthew 11:20

20 Then he [Jesus] proceeded to denounce the towns where most of his miracles were done, because they did not repent…

Mark 6:5-6a

5 He [Jesus] was not able to do a miracle there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And he was amazed at their unbelief.

  • What is the purpose of miracles?
  • Why was Jesus upset that the towns where many miracles were done did not repent?
  • What is the relationship between our belief and miracles?
  • It’s easy to read the passage in Mark and think that we can somehow cause God to be weaker based on our actions. What does this passage actually teach us about God’s power and unbelief?
  • What are you doubting right now when it comes to your faith?
    • How can you pray and trust God in that area of your life this week?

Discipleship Questions

Prayer TACOS

Thanksgiving: What miraculous things has the Lord has done in your life? Thank Him for those things.

Amazement: How does the Lord work in the supernatural world? Spend some time marveling at how He holds all of creation together. Worship Him for being a God worthy of worship.

Confession: How have you doubted Jesus’ power this week and relied on your own power? Confess those things and ask the Lord to strengthen your faith.

Others: Who is someone who needs a miracle? Pray that the Lord would show up and show off in that person’s life. Pray that as a result they would come to know Jesus or have their faith strengthened.

Self: Do you hear about miracles, but then find a way to explain them away? Ask the Lord to help you in your unbelief.
