Opening Discussion

  • What is something you want to be remembered for?

Read and Discuss

Psalm 145:3-4

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.

1 Timothy 5:3-4

3 Support widows who are genuinely in need. 4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn to practice godliness toward their own family first and to repay their parents, for this pleases God.

  • How is one generation supposed to treat the next generation?
  • How is one generation supposed to treat the generation that has gone before them?
  • What are we supposed to pass on to the following generation as it pertains to the Lord?
  • How have you seen the Lord working in your life recently?
    • Who is someone you can tell about that this week?
  • When you think about the Lord’s mighty acts, what comes to mind?

Ephesians 4:29-5:2

29 No foul language should come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear. 30 And don’t grieve God’s Holy Spirit. You were sealed by him for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander be removed from you, along with all malice. 32 And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.

1 Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children, 2 and walk in love, as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.

  • When you read these verses what are some things that come to mind?
  • Who in your life has modeled these things to you?
    • If someone were to describe you, would they include things in these verses as positive or negative examples?
  • “Be imitators of God” is a lofty verse to live up to. Why do you think Paul adds the “as dearly loved children” part?
  • What are some ways you are like your parents?
    • If you have kids, what are some ways they are like you?
  • How can you imitate God more this week?

Extra Questions

  • Why do your words matter so much?
  • What are ways you can use your words to give grace to those who hear?
  • How can you build others up this week with your words?
  • How does bitterness, anger, wrath, shouting, slander, and malice affect your life?
    • What are ways you need to draw close to the Lord so He can remove those things from you?
  • Who do you need to forgive?
  • How can forgiveness help get rid of that anger?

Discipleship Questions

  • What would it look like to walk in love this week…
    • …at work?
    • …in your home?
    • …with your friends?
    • …at your church?
    • …with your enemies (or those you don’t get along or agree with?)

Memorize it!

Ephesians 4:29

29 No foul language should come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear.

Prayer TACOS

Thanksgiving: What do you have to be thankful for this week? Spend some time thanking God for those things right now.

Adoration: The Lord is worthy of our worship. Since we are dearly loved children of His, talk to Him like the loving Father He is. Tell Him how great He is.

Confession: What are the things you said this week that hurt others? How did you let anger get the better of you this week? Talk to Jesus about those things. Ask for forgiveness. Talk with Him about you can rely on Him more and speak grace to those around you.

Others: How has someone impacted your life in a positive way recently? Thank the Lord for them and pray that He would bless them this week.

Self: What do you need to do to pour into the next generation? Ask the Lord to give you boldness to take the steps you need to in order to step out of your comfort zone and step into the story of the next generation.
