Opening Discussion

  • What was a defining moment in your life?

Read and Discuss

Galatians 6:7-10

7 Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows he will also reap, 8 because the one who sows to his flesh will reap destruction from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit. 9 Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith.

  • Why might people think God could be mocked?
  • Sowing and reaping means planting and harvesting. How have you seen people sow and reap destruction?
    • How have you seen people sow and reap in the Spirit?
  • How is what Paul is talking about here with sowing and reaping different from karma?
  • What are some ways you’ve reaped from the Spirit this week?
  • What are some things that might make you tired of doing good?
    • How can you find strength in the Lord this week?

Acts 13:1-3

1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

2 As they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then after they had fasted, prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them off.

  • What are some things you notice about the early church from this passage?
  • Twice in the passage fasting is mentioned. Do you think that is an important part of growing in your faith? Why or why not?
  • Worship, prayer, fasting, laying on hands, and sending people out to do the work of the Lord were big parts of the early church. How do churches do those things now?
    • What are one or two ways our church could be better about those things?

1 Timothy 2:1-4

1 First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 2 for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

  • Why is it important for us to pray for the things Paul lists?
  • How can you pray for leaders and those in authority when you don’t agree with them or their decisions?
  • What does it mean to lead a “tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity?”
    • Would you say that describes your life?
    • What needs to change if that doesn’t describe your life?

Discipleship Questions

  • Who is a specific leader and politician in your life that you can pray for this week?
  • How can you practice worship, prayer, or fasting in your life this week?
  • Who is someone that can help you with these things?

Memorize it!

Galatians 6:7-8

7 Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows he will also reap, 8 because the one who sows to his flesh will reap destruction from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit.

Prayer

For prayer this week pray for our country. Pray for those in leadership that they would repent and live their lives centered around the Lord. Pray for the families of those that were in tragedies this week. Ask the Lord to bring healing to our land. Lastly ask Him how He wants to use you to bring about the change and healing that is needed.
