Galatians 3:1-3

1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. 2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? 

  • Why does Paul call the Galatians foolish and bewitched?
    • Who might Paul say this to today?
  • Did you get the Holy Spirit by doing good things, or hearing the gospel and believing by faith?
  • We can’t earn our forgiveness from sins by doing good things. So why, after becoming followers of Jesus, do we think we have to do good works for Jesus to keep working in our lives?
  • What role do good works have in our life?

Galatians 3:4-6

4 Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? 5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith— 6 just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?

  • Why does Jesus want us to do good works?
  • What does “hearing with faith” mean?
  • What are some ways you need to hear with faith?
  • If we hear by faith, do we still need to do good works?
    • Why or why not?

  • Where am I resisting the Spirit leading me?
  • How can I give God more space this week?

Prayer TACOS!

Thanksgiving-  What is something the Lord has done for you recently? Spend some time thanking Him.

Adoration- Worship the Lord for giving us the Holy Spirit.

Confess- What is something you did this week that was for your own glory? Ask the Lord for forgiveness and to help you recognize when you are trying to please others or make yourself look better.

Others- Who is striving to do good works without walking in faith? Ask the Lord for an opportunity to talk to them this week.

Self- What can you do this week to give God more space in your life? Ask Him to show you how to do this.
