7.20.25 Huddle
Opening Discussion
- What was something the Lord did good in your life this past week?
Side Note: We’ve been in the book of Galatians for the past few weeks. We are taking a deeper look into Galatians 3:6-9 by spending some time in Genesis exploring the life of Abraham (formerly Abram).
Galatians 3:6-9
6 …just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”? 7 You know, then, that those who have faith, these are Abraham’s sons. 8 Now the Scripture saw in advance that God would justify the Gentiles by faith and proclaimed the gospel ahead of time to Abraham, saying, All the nations will be blessed through you. 9 Consequently, those who have faith are blessed with Abraham, who had faith.

Genesis 15:1-6
1 After these events, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield; your reward will be very great. 2 But Abram said, “Lord God, what can you give me, since I am childless and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3 Abram continued, “Look, you have given me no offspring, so a slave born in my house will be my heir.” 4 Now the word of the Lord came to him: “This one will not be your heir; instead, one who comes from your own body will be your heir.” 5 He took him outside and said, “Look at the sky and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “Your offspring will be that numerous.” 6 Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
- Why does the Lord say he is Abram’s shield?
- How is the Lord a shield in your life?
- Abram responded to the Lord’s proclamation of giving him a great reward with a complaint. What did Abram not understand about God and His promises?
- What are some common things people get wrong about the Lord’s promises and work in their life?
- Why do you think the Lord showed Abram the stars to strengthen his faith?
- How can God’s creation strengthen your faith?
Genesis 16:1-3
1 Abram’s wife, Sarai, had not borne any children for him, but she owned an Egyptian slave named Hagar. 2 Sarai said to Abram, “Since the Lord has prevented me from bearing children, go to my slave; perhaps through her I can build a family.” And Abram agreed to what Sarai said. 3 So Abram’s wife, Sarai, took Hagar, her Egyptian slave, and gave her to her husband, Abram, as a wife for him. This happened after Abram had lived in the land of Canaan ten years.
- When Sarai brought this solution to Abram, why do you think he didn’t go talk to God first?
- Ten years after waiting for this promise, Abram and Sarai decided to figure out on their own how to make God’s promise come true. What was God trying to teach them during that ten year period that they missed?
- God wants us to actively pursue Him and to live out our faith. So how do you determine the difference between waiting on His promises and also actively living out your faith?
- How can you make sure that when someone gives you advice, that it is godly advice and not worldly advice?
