Opening Discussion

  • Where’s the furthest place you’ve travelled? What did you do there?

Read & Discuss

Acts 1:6-8

6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?”

7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

  • Why doesn’t Jesus just tell them when the end times will happen?
  • How do some people respond when they know a deadline is coming but it is far away?
  • What does it mean to be a witness for Jesus?
  • What is significant about the places Jesus lists?
  • Why would Samaria have been a shocking place for Jesus to tell them to go to?
  • How are you living out this mission today?

Acts 10:39-46

39 We ourselves are witnesses of everything he [Jesus] did in both the Judean country and in Jerusalem, and yet they killed him by hanging him on a tree. 40 God raised up this man on the third day and caused him to be seen, 41 not by all the people, but by us whom God appointed as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be the judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that through his name everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins.”

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came down on all those who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were amazed because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and declaring the greatness of God.

  • What was significant about this moment in history?
    • How did this change the trajectory of the disciples?
  • Why was Peter amazed that Gentiles (non-Jewish people) could receive the Holy Spirit?
  • Jesus’ message is for everyone. Why do some people have a hard time with that?
  • Have you ever thought that someone doesn’t deserve God’s grace? What helped you get past that?

Discipleship Questions

  • Who are some tough people that Jesus is calling you to tell about Him?
    • How can you take a step toward that this week?
  • What are ways you can be a witness of Jesus to those around you this week?

Memorize it!

Acts 10:42  He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be the judge of the living and the dead.

Dig Deeper

This week read Acts 10-15 to see how the message of Jesus started spreading throughout the world.

Prayer TACOS!

Thanksgiving-  Who taught the message of Jesus to the people that helped you follow after Jesus? Thank Him for the gospel that passes down from generation to generation.

Confess- Who are some people you have thought don’t deserve the forgiveness that Jesus gives? Ask the Lord for forgiveness and the ability to see people as He sees people.

Others- Who is someone that annoys you and bothers you? Pray that the Lord would soften your heart towards them and give you an opportunity to bless them this week.
