Opening Discussion

  • What’s a story or something that you believed for a long time but then found out it wasn’t true?

Read and Discuss

Galatians 1:1-7

1 Paul, an apostle—not from men or by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead—2 and all the brothers who are with me:

To the churches of Galatia.

3 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father. 5 To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

6 I am amazed that you are so quickly turning away from him who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 not that there is another gospel, but there are some who are troubling you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.

  • What do we learn about Jesus from this passage?
  • What is the gospel? Why were the Galatians turning away from it?
  • In today’s culture, what are some things people say to try to get followers of Jesus to turn from the real gospel?

2 Peter 3:14-16

14 Therefore, dear friends, while you wait for these things, make every effort to be found without spot or blemish in his sight, at peace. 15 Also, regard the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our dear brother Paul has written to you according to the wisdom given to him. 16 He speaks about these things in all his letters. There are some things hard to understand in them. The untaught and unstable will twist them to their own destruction, as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures.

  • What does Peter mean by, “regard the patience of our Lord as salvation?”
  • How do people twist scripture?
  • What’s something you believed about the Bible that you later found out was incorrect?
  • When you read the Bible, how can you make sure you are interpreting it the right way?

Galatians 6:9-10

9 Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith.

  • What are some ways you might get tired of doing good?
  • How can you persevere in the midst of hardship?
  • What is a daily practice you have (or could develop) to help you live daily for Christ?

Discipleship Questions

  • If you were asked to explain the gospel in two minutes, could you do it?
    • If not, what could you do this week to learn an easy way to explain the gospel to others?
  • Peter says some of the stuff Paul says is hard to understand. When you come across something in the Bible that you don’t understand, where do you go to help find out what it means?
  • What is something you could do this week to work for the good of someone else?

Memorize it!

Galatians 6:9 Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.
